One Iota and Genius The Fool
A great gig to brighten up a dark Sunday night in November at The Crescent Community Venue in York. Here’s a short review of the night (thanks for the write-up Ike).
This was a double-header event with two great bands playing an evening of unforgettable live music.
Genius The Fool were first up, and although this was their much delayed debut gig there were no signs of nerves in the 7-piece line-up. They performed a great set with some amazing vocals from the girls and some awesome guitar work, finishing with a couple of Stolen Earth numbers – it was great to hear these being performed live once again.
After a short break One Iota took to the stage and launched into a full-on set with songs from the “More Than You Take” album, along with some new material slated for the new album which is the current work in progress. The new songs mark a subtle change in direction for the band, leaving some of the trademark Beatles influences aside and moving towards a sound which is much more their own. In fact this continues the journey of the first album, which itself charted a progression in approach as writing and performance styles developed over the production time of the album, extended due to the usual pandemic lockdown reasons.
The finale was the anthemic ‘Be The One’, the song that closes the last album and made a fitting climax to the whole evening.
Both bands seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time on stage, and the crowd had a great night with two amazing performances.
